The US Bureau of Reclamation has announced the water supply allocation for the Klamath project. Not everyone is happy with it. The initial allocation for the Klamath project is 230,000 acre feet from Upper Klamath Lake. 35,000 Acres from Gerber Reservoir and 35 to 40,000 acre feet from Clear Lake Reservoir.
The Project will also be getting $8.5 million in funding to help support drought resiliency.
After the announcement of water allocation, Klamath Water Users Association is sharing how “deeply disappointed” they were. Saying it’s 35% less than the estimated need.
In a statement, the Klamath Water Users Association’s Executive Director said, “Within a few weeks, Upper Klamath Lake will be completely full for the first time in seven years and the snowpack is in good shape for this time of year. Yet we are looking at the fifth worst allocation in the 120 years since the Klamath Project was authorized.”
