Irrigators from the Upper Klamath Basin are being invited to meet with members of the Yurok Indian Tribe next month to discuss water needs in the Klamath River Basin.

The Greater Klamath Basin Stakeholders Workshop will be held Feb. 2-4 at the Yurok tribal office in Klamath, Calif.

Water users and tribal members will examine the concerns of the Karuk and Hoopa and Yurok tribes.

In March, the Stakeholders group will meet in the Upper Basin, focusing on the Klamath Project, non-project irrigators and the Klamath Tribes.

Nest week's workshop is sponsored by the Klamath Compact Commission, the Upper Klamath Basin Working Group and the Oregon State University Extension office in Klamath Falls, and is the third meeting held by the Stakeholders group.

The first meeting was held in July 2004 in Somes Bar, Calif., and drew about 40 people, including farmers, ranchers, fishermen, agency and tribal representatives, environmentalists and a PacifiCorp manager.

A second meeting was held in November in the Scott Valley.

A registration fee of $35 for next week's workshop includes meals provided by the Yurok Tribe and lodging for two days and nights. Scholarships for registration fees are available. Space is limited to 60 participants.

Bob Chadwick of Consensus Associates will facilitate the workshop.

Registration forms, which will be accepted through Jan. 26, are available at the OSU Extension Service office at 3328 Vandenberg Road, Klamath Falls, OR 97603.

An optional lunch and strategic planning session are planned for Friday, Feb. 4 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Yurok Tribal administration Building at 190 Klamath Blvd., Klamath, Calif.

For more information about the workshop contact Terry Morton at 882-7200. For more information about registration, food or lodging contact Lori Fernlund at the OSU Extension Service office at 883-7131.
